Why you should and why shouldn't buy Nokia phones (part 2) (2005)

Submitted by marcin on Thu 15-Sep-2005

I have prepared page "Why you should and why shouldn't buy Nokia phones" in 2002 year. I decided to make continuation now in 2005.

I wanted to show some weak Nokia things for Series 40 and 60 phones, because they're used the most for ordinary people.

First Series 40. We will look into menus now (based mainly on 6230i):

  • Messages - Nokia phones have MMS and SMS here.
    • Latest models (like 6230i) have even shared folders for both and this is good.

Nokia top model N900 sales below 100,000 & Microsoft: 30 Million Windows Phone 7 devices will be sold by the end of 2011

Submitted by marcin on Sat 29-May-2010

Two interesting articles from last time: Microsoft: 30 Million Windows Phone 7 devices will be sold by the end of 2011 and Nokia top model N900 sales below 100,000: Gartner

My answer: first is system, which will probably not have many features known from competitors. Second is system, which was not supported correctly by own manufacturer. How could you think, that they could be successful ?

Report 2007-04-07

I was playing today with latest PC Suite from Nokia (6.83) and NSU. I decided to write few words about it...

Installer: 23 MB, on HDD the same... It looks nice (better than earlier versions), but doesn't have too many functions and in many places you have info about DRM only (for example: why the hell does it read standard phone applets and waste user time, when few seconds later speak, that it's DRM protected ?). And in license you have a lot of info, what you can't with it...

KMobileTools call for developers

Submitted by marcin on Wed 19-Jul-2006

Request from some developers moved here from gammu.org

KMobileTools is a userfriendly GUI for accessing your mobile phone, using an own AT based engine and a gammu engine. It offers a nice API itself and will be directly integrated into KDE's PIM stuff.

Report 2007-03-18

My diff file for Gammu+ became too big and I decided to release 0.21.00 faster (it doesn't have some planned things).

Few notes about this and other issues (random):

  • I'm almost happy from pbk/calendar/todo/notes quality and I almost switched my personal backups/restores from Gammu to Gammu+. This is not beta, but rather Release Candidate (when we compare to commercial packages).
