Evolution or revolution ?

We had this topic visible here few times. I want to return to it again.

Let's show few things. First Microsoft. Do you remember problems with joining two Windows families (one started with Windows 95 and one with Windows NT) ? We had Windows 2000, which wasn't the best for users, but finally company released Windows XP and it was big success. Now we hear about Vista incompatibilies and part of reports say clear - because of it may users won't be interested in getting new OS for longer time.

I decided too, that Gammu bugs should be added to Michal's bug tracker. Expect disabling Gammu project in bug tracker on gammu.org soon

In first Nokia phones with GPRS (like 8310, 6310, 6310i, 6510, 3510 and maybe some other) phone was able to display "G" char instead of char displayed below network level. It was clear, that phone is in continuous GPRS session and downloading some data won't be connected with starting new session (in many networks connected with new money for operator). If phone end GPRS session after leaving WAP browser or data connection (no "G" char), it had disabled continuous GPRS sessions (it was done for example after upgrading firmware in service). Simple "gammu --nokiasetphomenus" "repaired" it.

• new Gammu+ (for example SMS support for Series 40 3.0 phones) available. I planned it few days earlier, but... The same I planned new test Gammu in previous week, but still want to make some things with it...Please give me day or two (definitely I should make everything during this week)...

you are generally Michal right. Well documented hardware = less problems...

But: very often people buy, what they know and what is compatible with their other hardware (like memory cards). Sometimes not well documented hardware is much better than documented. I remember times of Nokia 3310. You simply didn't have cheap and so good phone...

very short news from me: I'm working hard on new release. Decoding EMS and some other SMS features already work, I'm testing/writing EMS editor + EMS packing functions. If everything will go fine, Gammu+ will have soon support for such EMS functionalities:

Again, some ''blog'' and some project related things.

Project:

Gammu 1.08.25 - mainly Michal's work, a lot of stuff for SE devices and OBEX, it must be tested & bugs removed now. I hope, that you will give a lot of feedback to Michal. There some other fixes too...

In Michal's code I had to remove strndup (replaced with malloc + memcpy) and make shorter file names (to 8+3)

New test Gammu+ available. I have implemented encoding majority of phonebook & calendar support (over SMS), encoding WAP push and todo (over SMS too). Next will be preview of encoded entries, maybe editing too...

Yes. Editing. Do you think, that anyone need this software ? I'm thinking something, looking sometimes into gammu.org history and think, that it become maybe popular, but it's like ReactOS and many other (treat as toys).

Gammu+ 0.22.00 available. Released, because diff file was too big ;-) Among various bugfixes and improvements I would like to notify especially, that during restoring software inform, what from pbk wasn't restored and why.

I must say, that it's near such point, that I have everything for personal usage. For quite new phones you have:

• pbk support (excluding caller groups, ringtones, sms lists, voice tags and few other, which are IDs for some phone memory places, everything is like in Gammu 1.09.00 or even better)

Well, this report will be rather personal. I write it here, because it's connected with development too...

• studies: I'm waiting for 2 results, 2 things to write (and pass)
• work: I should (or rather: I have to) go somewhere to practise. I had company, but this is probably not actual. So, I don't have any job place for now. I will have to search again for it.
