I would like to write here some more and less bitter and some good words about developing Open Source software. These are some random thoughs. This is based on own experiences, but not only... Sorry for grammar mistakes...

I will try to answer on some questions:

why people create Open Source software ?

This article will contains various comments about privacy connected with cellular devices (in GSM networks)...

First of all, I must say, that you don't have something like that. Each time, when phone exchange data with operator stations, he know phone and SIM card details. If you have bought SIM card with concract, he know you personal info too. Of course this is not 100% reliable (phone can be not used by owner), but... This location data should be secret and the most often are. But now always...

My diff file for Gammu+ became too big and I decided to release 0.21.00 faster (it doesn't have some planned things).

Few notes about this and other issues (random):

• I'm almost happy from pbk/calendar/todo/notes quality and I almost switched my personal backups/restores from Gammu to Gammu+. This is not beta, but rather Release Candidate (when we compare to commercial packages).

Holidays after me. Few comments:

• I have put my diploma work about data/user authorization in computer systems (in Polish language) into my www. PDF file with it has got some interesting features: included inside attachments, index, bookmarks,... (all done with free software)

Do you know what ?

Michal speak about new API for Gammu and I have new idea too ;-). Currently MMS can have many files inside. Let's make decoding SMS using the same stuff.

Do you want to have text inside ? Add one "file" with "text/plain" MIME type. Nokia Smart Messaging bitmap ? One "file" with bitmap/gif... etc. etc.

Evolution or revolution ?

We had this topic visible here few times. I want to return to it again.

Let's show few things. First Microsoft. Do you remember problems with joining two Windows families (one started with Windows 95 and one with Windows NT) ? We had Windows 2000, which wasn't the best for users, but finally company released Windows XP and it was big success. Now we hear about Vista incompatibilies and part of reports say clear - because of it may users won't be interested in getting new OS for longer time.

I decided too, that Gammu bugs should be added to Michal's bug tracker. Expect disabling Gammu project in bug tracker on gammu.org soon

In first Nokia phones with GPRS (like 8310, 6310, 6310i, 6510, 3510 and maybe some other) phone was able to display "G" char instead of char displayed below network level. It was clear, that phone is in continuous GPRS session and downloading some data won't be connected with starting new session (in many networks connected with new money for operator). If phone end GPRS session after leaving WAP browser or data connection (no "G" char), it had disabled continuous GPRS sessions (it was done for example after upgrading firmware in service). Simple "gammu --nokiasetphomenus" "repaired" it.

Well, I have decided to write few words after reading Michal's blog and some other... First facts.

Android set APNs according to SIM card network code, application makes it according to network code and network name saved on the SIM card:

1. none of user data (SIM card serial number, SIM card IMSI, SIM card network, phone network number) are saved in device or transmitted from device

2. application is changing internal phone APN database: can use internal database (you can export it) or external file with data, changes are done on user request, on the start or when network type change

Many personal notes and joined with it notes about development...

• new Gammu+ (for example SMS support for Series 40 3.0 phones) available. I planned it few days earlier, but... The same I planned new test Gammu in previous week, but still want to make some things with it...Please give me day or two (definitely I should make everything during this week)...
