Gammu+ 0.37 is ready. What can I say ?

For example: you can make MMS receiving gateway with it now (tested on 6111).

It's very close from the state, where will be rock stable, fast and will have support for all important functions. I estimate, that I will reach it in December.

And what next ? I'm not sure. I have read about Nokia reactions for info about breaking Series 60 security. I'm not sure, if they will love software, which is faster/smaller/better than their own PC Suite.

hmmm, I have "small" dilema. I was creating Gammu over years and tried to make it as simple as possible. Later decided to leave it a little (financial and other reasons) and give control over it to very good programmer Michal. Now I have downloaded it (1.13.90) and tried to compile.

And what ?

And I CAN'T. Michal, there are many new UNKNOWN directories, when I make "cmake CMakeLists.txt", I receive 41 vcp (Visual Studio makefile) files (including old one available in tar.gz). And they don't work too good...

Post PC era -> is it really market regulated ?

Submitted by marcin on Sun 29-Jul-2012

In various places we can read, that PC (Personal Computers like notebooks and desktops) are less and less popular.

What can be reason for it ?

Standard X86 platform is of course much better and faster, but... many users complain about generally worse quality, worse screens and various "revolutionary" solutions (which allow to save few $ for manufacturers, but make a lot of problems for users).

gammu.org reorganization

Submitted by marcin on Sun 28-Mar-2010

As you probably know, I'm hosting some content (articles, materials, etc.) on the gammu.org. Some time ago I have decided, that it's not updated from longer time and additionally MediaWiki is not developed too much. I have decided to make some reorganization:

  1. moving all non-GSM content to the mwiacek.com (this page)

MS Windows (2007)

Submitted by marcin on Fri 23-Feb-2007

These are my random thoughts about MS Windows for x86... IMHO, we can speak about few time periods:
--------------------
198x - Windows 1.x, 2.x
--------------------
1990 - Windows 3.0. First more widely accepted and used

1992 - Windows 3.1 (Janus). Only protected mode, new: True Type fonts

1993 - Windows 3.11. APM

Summary: 16-bit time. Microsoft cooperated with IBM and there was OS/2 created during this time. First tries of making graphic subsystem (there was DirectX from it created). There were first network releases (Windows for WorkGroups).

Light and small ? (2013)

Submitted by marcin on Mon 06-May-2013

I decided to make quick and dirty comparison of some parameters of selected OS. I measured values once, because for me it was the most interesting to get only quantity. I have selected number of bytes written/read from HDD and number of bytes sent/received over network. Why ?

People are using more and more often SSD/flash memories, which have specified number of write cycles and people are using more and more often network connections with data limits.

Here are results, I have used mainly values observed by VirtualBox functions:

Why you should and why shouldn't buy Nokia phones (part 2) (2005)

Submitted by marcin on Thu 15-Sep-2005

I have prepared page "Why you should and why shouldn't buy Nokia phones" in 2002 year. I decided to make continuation now in 2005.

I wanted to show some weak Nokia things for Series 40 and 60 phones, because they're used the most for ordinary people.

First Series 40. We will look into menus now (based mainly on 6230i):

  • Messages - Nokia phones have MMS and SMS here.
    • Latest models (like 6230i) have even shared folders for both and this is good.

Nokia top model N900 sales below 100,000 & Microsoft: 30 Million Windows Phone 7 devices will be sold by the end of 2011

Submitted by marcin on Sat 29-May-2010

Two interesting articles from last time: Microsoft: 30 Million Windows Phone 7 devices will be sold by the end of 2011 and Nokia top model N900 sales below 100,000: Gartner

My answer: first is system, which will probably not have many features known from competitors. Second is system, which was not supported correctly by own manufacturer. How could you think, that they could be successful ?

Few notes from me. Some of them are similar to previous (from previous reports) - unfortunately, I must return to them. If you're tired with it, I will give first summary for this report - it can be "there is new Gammu+ release and almost everything is around it". Now you can decide, if you want to read it or not :-)
